Electric Hummer: GMC Teases Early Super Bowl Ad

The Hummer is coming back in 2021! The storied model will come back as a line of vehicles under the GMC brand and be fully electrified. And if claims prove true, it will offer some seriously impressive performance.

We’ll get our first taste of what the next-generation Humvee is all about this weekend during a 30-second Super Bowl ad in the second quarter. The commercial, titled “Quiet Revolution,” will highlight the juxtaposition of the vehicle’s expected impressive performance with its quiet operation.

“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs, and the GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”

GMC has only revealed a front grille shot and some basic performance specs so far. However, the numbers look impressive! Speculation suggests the GMC Hummer EV will have 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pound-feet of torque, and hit 60 mph from a standstill in 3 seconds. Those numbers easily rival the forthcoming Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and Bollinger B2 electric pickups.

Initially, the Hummer EV will launch as a pickup truck, but our guess is we’re likely to see an SUV as well. No matter what form it takes, it is sure to be large, off-road capable, and quick.

Plus, the Hummer EV will not share the big, loud, fuel-guzzling DNA that marked the Hummer brand of old in 2010. We also know the Hummer EV will be built in Michigan, at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant 2.

We likely won’t find out much more about the new Hummer EV in the full Super Bowl ad spot, but we have our eye on a full reveal on May 20, 2020. And we expect the Hummer EV to hit dealer lots in fall 2021.
