Inspire the Next Generation: ‘Girls on the Run’ Seeks Coaches for 2020

CAMPING GEAR

This spring, thousands of girls across the country will gather to learn, run, and grow through the Girls on the Run program. But they need coaches to do so.

Empowerment, exercise, fun: That’s what Girls on the Run is all about. And right now, the group is looking to recruit runners across the nation to help coach the next generation. The clock is ticking for the spring season, and Girls on the Run (GOTR) needs to recruit more than 1,000 volunteer coaches.

GOTR is a physical activity-based positive youth development program for third- to eighth-grade girls. It’s a 10-week program that includes weekly sessions, a celebratory 5K event, and more. Session focus on running, confidence-building, team activities, and more. And it all requires volunteer leadership.

GOTR has more than 200 planned locations across every state this year.

Coach With Girls on the Run

You don’t have to have training or teaching experience, but you do have to like running and have a positive attitude. GOTR coaches are as much mentors as they are runners, trainers, and inspirational figures.

Community members who work as mentors and trainers receive lesson plans and resources to help engage teams of girls in fun, interactive lessons and activities. Programs vary across the nation, but teams typically meet twice a week. There are also multiple coaching roles available: junior, assistant, and head coaches.

Each coach undergoes a background check, completes online and in-person training, and must be 18 years of age or older. Click here to learn more and register as a volunteer coach.
